A Quick Introduction to RSS

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a tool that allows a person to "subscribe" to a website, and receive new information from that website as soon as it is updated. Instead of visiting ten seperate websites to see if they have updated, you can add the RSS "feeds" from each site to an RSS "reader" program, and get all the updates in one place.

The Shire of Lyndhaven website offers an "RSS feed" for the latest news in the Shire. You will need to have an "RSS Reader" setup to use the feed.

Some RSS readers are available for free online. An online RSS reader is just a webpage that allows you to create an account, and then add several "feeds" for the page to track and organize for you.

Two popular online RSS readers are Bloglines and Google Reader.

Your internet browser may have tools built in that allow you to subscribe to an RSS feed. Look at the address bar for an orange RSS logo, click on it, then follow the instructions you are presented with.

When you have an RSS reader setup, and you want to subscribe to the "latest news" feed, just copy the address to the feed page. You can open the page and copy-and-paste from the address bar, or you can right-click on the link and choose "Copy Link Location", then paste it into the "subscribe" area in your RSS reader.

This is the RSS feeds page for all Lyndhaven feeds.
